About the Museum

The Lucile M. Wright Air Museum was founded by dedicated local visionaries captivated by aviation to create awareness of air and space in the community. The museum gets its namesake from longtime Jamestown resident, aviation pioneer, and philanthropist, Lucile M. Wright.

The museum was chartered in 1986 through the State of New York as an educational institution, where for several decades, the museum nurtured the concept of “Motivating Youth Through Aviation,” through education and hands-on learning experiences.

With help from charitable donations, businesses, local community members, and other aviation enthusiasts, the museum has had several locations over the years and continues to build its collection of aerospace and aviation exhibits that include a helicopter, flight simulators, and local aviation history artifacts.

Today, the museum aims to inspire aviators of all ages by highlighting the history of aviation in the community.
